We also watched the video from
Hidden figures where she studies the Euler method that involves a bit of differentials.
If you stop at minute 1:11 you can read the lines in the page describing the modified Euler method.
It involves using linear approximation to find a nearby y value and plugging it into the differential equation to find the slope.

Today we discussed Derivatives of trigonometric functions.
We saw how to differentiate sin x.
For practice, please try to find derivative of cos x.
Proof is very similar, using limit formula.
After that find derivative of tan x, cosec x, cot x, sec x.
For these functions you don't need to use limit formula.
Just use derivatives of sin x and cos x along with quotient rule.

such as multiplication of exponential functions and addition of logarithms but please review them from college algebra or precalculus book if book explanation is not adequate.

EXTRA READING IF INTERESTED:
Fractals can be generated by repeated application of same procedure,
similar to how we can compose a function with itself to get f(f(x)), f(f(f(x)))) etc.,
Video to show how snowflake shape can be obtained this way.
It also shows that if you continue this infinitely, then you get a shape where no matter how small you zoom into it, each part looks like the bigger curve.

Today we talked about the definition of a function, domain of function, piecewise defined functions, increasing and decreasing functions, even and odd functions and their relation to symmetry about y axis and origin (0,0) repectively. We also did some problems.

Patterns in Environmental Math if you are interested in learning more.
Youtube video showing how to approximate pi (or area of circle of radius 1 or half the perimeter of same circle) using polygons.
In the first part they show the theory and how to find the perimeter of various polygons (squares, pentagons, hexagons,...) that approximate the circle. Lot of formulae in this part.
In the last part they make a neat spreadsheet with perimeters for the different polygons as you increase the number of sides.
This is a great illustration of the limit process because you can see clearly how the polygons kind of merge with the circle at the same time as their perimeter approaches pi times their "diameter."
