You are welcome to check out my fall 2015 course Patterns in Environmental Math if you are interested in learning more.


Youtube video showing how to approximate pi (or area of circle of radius 1 or half the perimeter of same circle) using polygons.
In the first part they show the theory and how to find the perimeter of various polygons (squares, pentagons, hexagons,...) that approximate the circle. Lot of formulae in this part.
In the last part they make a neat spreadsheet with perimeters for the different polygons as you increase the number of sides.
This is a great illustration of the limit process because you can see clearly how the polygons kind of merge with the circle at the same time as their perimeter approaches pi times their "diameter."
