Abstract:  (Neil Hindman)

Fluid Dynamics will be meeting as usual, starting Friday, September 9.

This will be provisional.

If student attendance does not improve dramatically after a few weeks,

financial support for this gathering will be canceled.

The "Fluid" refers to soda and beer.

The "Dynamics" refers to the topics of conversation, which is as likely as anything

to deal with RGIII and the Washington Football Club.

Pizza, including a vegetarian option, and wings are provided.

1. (from Talitha Washington) Statfest 2016

The Committee on Minorities in Statistics of the American Statistical Association (ASA) is excited to announce that the 2016 StatFest conference will be hand on Saturday, September 24, 2016 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC.

StatFest is an all-day conference aimed at encouraging undergraduate students from historically under-represented groups to consider careers and graduate studies in the statistical sciences. The conference includes presentations from established professionals, academic leaders, and current graduate students that will help attendees understand the opportunities and routes for success in the field.

To register, see: http://community.amstat.org/cmis/events/statfest

The conference will include scientific talks, poster presentations, panel discussions, ample opportunities for discussion and interaction, and the awarding of the Blackwell-Tapia Prize to Dr. Mariel Vazquez. Participants will come from all career stages and will represent institutions of all sizes across the country, including Puerto Rico.

Conference goals are to recognize and showcase mathematical excellence by minority researchers among others.

Please register by Sept 30, 2016.

3. (from Alumna Valerie Nelson) AmpIt! Math Camp (session 1)

I will be directing next month on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 2-6 PM at the CPAC Office in Largo, MD.
This camp is ideal for high school and college students who have taken at least Algebra, but others are welcome.  Tell them to get ready to have some FUN and learn at the same time!  These types of programs are very attractive for college admission, scholarships, and employment, but they are often restricted to the cream of the crop.  However, this camp is open to ANYONE who registers for an available spot!

If you have children or know anyone who may be interested, please provide this information to them and have them contact me.  There are only 25 slots open since this is a highly interactive program, so register soon while sports are available!
