Fluid dynamics seminar
Seminar takes place after colloquium, and
does not take place if there is no colloquium.
Abstract: (Neil Hindman)
Fluid Dynamics will be meeting as
usual.
The "Fluid" refers to soda and
beer.
The "Dynamics" refers to
the topics of conversation, which is as likely as anything to deal with
the Washington Football Club.
Pizza, including a vegetarian option, and
wings are provided.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. (Thanks to Louise
Raphael) Testimony from former Undergraduate
Student
Ahmed Tadde,
BS in Mathematics and Economics
Howard University 2015
"My undergraduate research work
on R and SVM modeling has definitely helped my candidacy profile when I
applied for the job that I currently have.
I
was able to use my work on the Prostate Cancer research project at Howard as
proof of my abilities in R programming.
For machine
learning, my advice to students is to understand that there is no bulletproof
solution to a problem.
Machine learning is an iterative process that requires
curiosity, practicality, and adaptation.
Striving for complexity and/or perfection is a mistake,
especially when there are limitations on data resources.
Being collaborative really helps in finding solutions to
inevitable issues
(bad data, limited knowledge on
the pros & cons of different algorithms, computation resources,
domain knowledge, etc...)
that one faces when attempting to build machine learning models."
