Theory Seminar
2.10 to 3 pm, room 201
Dani Szpruch will talk about Tate and Tate type
gamma factors and their role in
representation theory. After introducing the SL(2,F) example he is going to describe his
research on non-algebraic covering of SL(2,F). He will
show how meromorphic functions
that resemble Tate gamma factor enter the picture.
Co-coordinators: Sankar Sitaraman and Dani Szpruch

Seminar usually takes place after colloquium, and
at 4.30 if there is no colloquium.
Abstract: (Neil Hindman)
The "Fluid" refers to soda and
beer.
The "Dynamics" refers to
the topics of conversation, which is as likely as anything
to deal with RGIII and the Washington Football Club.
Pizza, including a vegetarian option, and wings
are provided.

Intelligence Community Research Opportunities Now Available for Postdoc and
Faculty Teams ORAU is now accepting proposals for the Intelligence Community
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program. Recent Ph.D. graduates or
Ph.D. students who will soon complete their degrees are invited to
collaborate with full-time faculty or staff members from accredited
colleges, universities, and U.S. Government laboratories who will serve as the PostdocÕs local Research
Advisor. In partnership with the Research Advisor, the Postdoc composes and
submits a technical proposal that responds to one of the
research opportunities identified at http://orau.org/icpostdoc/current-opportunities.aspx.
Closes April 15. 3. There are fellowship

Will the next Einstein come from Africa ?
The
Next Einstein Forum is being held March 8-10, 2016, in Dakar, Senegal. It
is the first global science forum taking place on African soil, and itÕs
bringing together 700 scientists, mathematicians and technologists from 80
countries — nearly half of them women and under the age of 42. The forum
is the latest development toward TurokÕs 2008 TED
Prize wish: that we celebrate an African Einstein in
our lifetimes.
Why did Albert Einstein have such a unique
scientific mind? Because he came from a disadvantaged background, says TED
Prize winner Neil Turok.
ÒWhen new cultures enter science, especially
disadvantaged cultures, transformation can happen,Ó he said today in his opening
remarks at the Next Einstein Forum Global
Gathering 2016. ÒI believe that the entrance of young Africans into science
will transform science for the better.Ó
ÒCan you imagine a thinker who combines
the brilliance of Einstein and the compassion of Mandela?Ó
